What is Cross Training?

Cross Training is St. John Lutheran Church’s discipleship ministry for students in 1st through 8th grade. It is designed to help children and youth grow in a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ by knowing God’s Word, living out their faith, and becoming faithful disciples who make disciples.

At St. John, we believe that discipleship is a lifelong journey. Just as adults are encouraged to grow through our Life with God pathway, Cross Training provides that same foundation for our children and youth. Our desire is to partner with parents in raising up the next generation to know Christ, love His Church, and confidently share His Gospel with the world.

Throughout the year, students will grow through Bible study, fellowship, worship, prayer, service projects, special events, team-building activities, and meaningful discussions about the Christian faith. Together, they will discover what it means to follow Jesus every day.

Cross Training also introduces students to the 8 Marks of Jesus’ Disciples, learning to become followers of Christ who are:

  • Humble – Putting Christ before self.
  • In the Word – Growing through Scripture.
  • Obedient – Living according to God’s will.
  • Selfless – Serving others with Christ’s love.
  • Prayerful – Developing a daily conversation with God.
  • Christ-like – Reflecting Jesus in words and actions.
  • Engaged – Living in fellowship with God’s family.
  • Multipliers – Sharing the Good News and helping others follow Jesus.

All students in 1st through 8th grade are invited to participate. Students in 1st–5th grade meet together for age-appropriate instruction, while 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students receive confirmation instruction as they prepare to publicly confess their faith and become active, lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ.

St. John is blessed with approximately 85 children between the ages of 6 and 13, and our prayer is that every one of them will grow in faith through Cross Training. We invite every family to join us as we walk together in God’s Word, encouraging one another and growing in our Life with God.
